Someone commented on my last (and first ever) post asking why I am supporting Barack Obama. I guess this is a fair question since I have link on my page pointing to a place where you can make donations to his campaign. I’ll make it brief.
I hear you. It does seem like the “in thing to do” right now and I hope it stays that way. I hope it stays that way so he delivers that final knock out punch to Hilary and his momentum carries him to the White House. With that said, here is why he’s got my vote. I actually do have reasons for voting for him beyond the fact that he’s an inspirational speaker and uses phrases such as “in the house” in his speeches. I think one reason why so many people may not be able to put their finger on why they are supporting Obama over Clinton is that there isn’t too big of a policy difference between the two. They will run the government in just about the same way. Sure their healthcare plans vary a bit but I think essentially we’re looking at two candidates with very similar views on the issues. This leads people to look at other things.
The first thing that that really gets me excited about Obama is the fact that he can bring people from opposite sides together. He wants both parties to be able to work as a whole to come up with solutions. A huge reason nothing ever gets done in Washington is these two parties refuse to agree on anything. Obama will try to change this. The Republicans already hate Clinton. The bickering between the two parties (that really got bad when Bill Clinton was President) is just going to get worse. Also, don’t you just get the sense that you can trust Obama? I guess this is just a gut feeling I have about the guy. I mean, look at how nasty the Clinton campaign has been and it’s getting worse. This whole plagiarism thing that the Clinton campaign came up with was such a cheap shot and completely off base. Then she tried to deny that her campaign had anything to do with it, and it was the media who was running story out there. Nice try. I feel like if Hillary were in a fist fight, she would be the type kick you in the balls when you were taking off your glasses and then run off with your wallet and iPod.
I understand his message of “change” and “hope” may just come across as rhetoric to some, but voters should be taking this seriously. I get the sense that while Clinton wants to change the policy in the current White House; Obama wants to change the policy of how things work in Washington as a whole. He wants to keep the corporations and lobbyists at bay. He brings a new and refreshing style to politics that this country needs. The fact that he has gotten so many new people involved and excited in the process is just one example of how he’ll unify Americans. This may sound optimistic, but I believe it. He is willing to speak with our enemies and only use force when it’s necessary. Go figure.
I also want to note one more thing that really bothers me about the Clinton campaign. This, “I am ready to be the Commander In Chief from day one” line is getting a little old. Does she think that we are all stupid enough to believe that Barack Obama will walk in there and have no clue what he’s doing? I am guessing he’s done his homework. Does she think he’s too inexperienced to know that he, just like anyone stepping into the Oval Office is going to need to surround himself (or herself) with the best of the best? I don’t get what makes her so much more ready on day one? Oh, it must be because she was married to a President. She said something the other day along the lines of, when that call comes at 3:00 am saying that the country is in crisis; who do you want there? Do you have experience with that Hillary? Were you ever in bed with the President when he received a call like that? I doubt it. It’s a cheap shot I know, but if Barack isn’t going to toss any at her I’ll gladly whack her with one. His campaign has show so much more class from the beginning.
I could go on longer, but in a nutshell that’s about it. I don’t believe that this is a hard or complicated decision. My parents are going to vote Democrat because of Barack Obama for the love of god. This is a beautiful thing. Ok, I’ll end on that note. The weekend is here so enjoy yourself and be safe. I’ll do my best to do the same.
